An annual listing of the most powerful people in real estate has been published and includes several from Canada.

The Swanepoel Power 200 for 2020 puts co-founder and CEO Rich Barton at the top of the pile followed by Keller Williams Realty CEO Gary Keller, HomeServices of America CEO Ron Peltier, Realogy CEO Ryan Schneider, and Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman.

The most powerful female leaders on the 2020 list include Hanna Holdings CEO Helen Hanna Casey, Windermere Real Estate managing principal Jill Wood; and Sherry Chris, the new CEO of Realogy Expansion Brands.

Canada’s most powerful and top-rated is Phil Soper, president and CEO of Bridgemarq Real Estate Services (formerly Brookfield Real Estate Services), the firm that owns the Royal LePage, Via Capitale and Johnston & Daniel brands. He takes 10th spot in the overall top 200.

Other Canadian leaders making the grade include Martin Charlwood, vice chairman and CEO of Century 21 Canada; Elton Ash, EVP of RE/MAX Western Canada; John DiMichele, CEO of Toronto Real Estate Board; Michael Bourque, CEO of the Canadian Real Estate Association; Pierre Titley, co-founder and president of RE/MAX Quebec; Patrick Arkeveld, executive chairman of Lone Wolf Real Estate Technologies; Morgan Carey of Real Estate Webmasters; Carolyn Cheng, COO and CTO of Royal LePage; and Tim Hudak, CEO of Ontario Realtors Association.

The list is published by real estate brokerage consultancy T3 Sixty and its executives spend hundreds of hours determining who should be included and where.

“We publish the SP200 each year to help industry participants gain a better understanding of the scope and extent of the many significant companies and leaders that shape their industry,” said T3 Sixty Chairman and CEO Stefan Swanepoel. “It is fascinating to track how different leaders and roles shift every year. The insights of developments on the highest levels of the industry at any given time provide invaluable strategic insight of who you should be working with, learning from and who to watch out for.”
